Transformation of coal regions
Since 2018, three NGOs – the Center for Environmental Initiatives Ecoaction, Luhansk Region Human Rights Center Alternativa and Germanwatch are implementing the project New Energy – New Opportunities for Sustainable Development of Donbas with the financial support of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.
The main goal of the project is to support stakeholders in the region in developing recommendations and measures for a sustainable energy transition to renewable energy sources and energy efficiency in the context of global decarbonisation trends.
The project created the Platform for Sustainable Development of Coal Towns of Donetsk Region, which was joined by nine coal dependent towns of Donetsk region, three NGOs from the region and Donetsk Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The main goal of the Platform is to prepare, develop and implement a common strategic vision for the transformation of the mining region.
